Washington Square Estates

The stairs have been entirely rebuilt and we think they look awesome. Please be cautious using them, especially the upper section, over the next couple of weeks. We do expect the gravel to settle and compact and we have plans to fill in with a smaller gravel size once it has compacted. In the meantime, the wood frame will sit higher than the gravel center, so watch your step. We will also be installing a handrail in at least the steep area of the upper stairs and are looking into options.

These stairs were brought to you by your awesome neighbors who gave time, sweat, but thankfully, no tears. Thank you to everyone who gave so much time and effort, and to every family member who gave up time to let them volunteer. We had fun celebrating the finish with some Kona Ice, and we hope everyone enjoys using the new stairs.

We’ll be working again this weekend, starting at 9am each morning, and hoping that Sunday isn’t a full day. Some volunteers can work on the upper stairs while others bring gravel from the lower court and spread it on the path walkway. The stair building will all be based on the upper section of Ventura Ct.

BONUS: Volunteer through lunch and get a smoked brisket sandwich! The brisket is already being prepped!

We also need sledgehammers to drive rebar. Please bring one if you have it. Not volunteering but have one we can use? Drop it off at 9620 SW Ventura Ct.

• Come for an hour or stay the day.
• Bring your water, closed toe shoes, work gloves and any additional tools you have from the list in the sign up.
• Adults and teens welcome! This tighter construction area is not safe for kids or pets, but take the opportunity to hang out in Cougar Woods Park with your neighbors!

Please join us to celebrate with a picnic in the park. You bring your picnic and we’re bringing the desserts. Kona Ice will be serving from 5:00pm – 5:30pm only, so be sure not to miss out. We want to hang out with all the neighbors, so please come by, even if you were not able to help out with the stairs.

Thanks to everyone who came out for a little or a lot of time. We finished the lower portion of the stairs and made good progress on the upper portion. We still could use help next weekend. We will be staging on the top side next weekend. We’ll see you at the top of the stairs or at 9620.

Thank you to everyone who came out and worked so hard today on the stairs! We made huge progress on the demo, and the lower portion now has some new steps. Come by tomorrow to volunteer if you have some time. We plan to start around 9am on Sunday and go through lunch until it gets too warm in the afternoon, probably around 3 p.m. We’ll have the smoker going for a lunch break if you are around to help!

Work on the stair project starts this Saturday- 9/19. We are looking for volunteers to help out this weekend and next weekend.

We finally have plans in the works for fixing up the stairs this fall, but we are going to need your help! Please save the dates below and come help out for a day or more.

We will have exact needs and information closer to the dates as well as requests for tools and equipment but please mark your calendar and plan on helping out if you can.

We have three homes signed up and there is an Estate Sale planned in our neighborhood this weekend as well. Let us know if you’d like to be added to the map, or feel free to make a last minute decision and take advantage of the traffic

We are planning a Neighborhood Garage Sale next weekend, July 18 & 19 from 9am to 2pm. So far, we have 2 sign-ups and would like to have at least 4-5 to start sharing on social community groups. (You do not have to commit to the full time listed above.) The graphic will be updated on Tuesday with dots on committed locations.

We’re looking for volunteers to help spread the wood chips at the Northeast entrance.  We would welcome any help, any time you could spend an hour or so.

We’re basically just spreading the chip piles out on the ground approximately 2”-3” deep. We will need to move some material from the West side of the road to the East side, since Asplundi (PGE) dumped too much on the West side. 

We want to recognize your work! We will give prizes for those who let us know they worked on the piles (kids and adults)! We’re not tracking details, but we’d like to know everyone’s first name who worked so we can recognize you, including kids! 

Grab your rake, wheelbarrow and scoop shovel and head up to the Northeast entrance. Some  board members will be there this Saturday afternoon if you’d like to join in, but again, feel free to go at any time!
